All of our homes are rated GOOD with OFSTED.
At PSS Care Group, we firmly believe in providing therapeutic, holistic, and person-centred care. Working therapeutically is a mindful approach to fostering healing and recovery. We are proud members of the Community of Communities quality network, adhering to the TCC standards set by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
The company conducted thorough research into various therapeutic models before selecting the Social Pedagogy's Head, Heart, and Hands model, following an in-depth review of extensive research by the National Centre for Excellence in Residential Child Care (NCERCC). This evidence-based approach aligns seamlessly with our core values and provides a robust framework for supporting the young people in our care. In addition to this, we also integrate Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, as well as principles of playfulness and acceptance, to further enrich our approach. This model aligns with the principles of "Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioural" (for those familiar with psychology).
Our Homes are designed to provide a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes the well-being of the young people in our care. As research has shown, green spaces and open areas significantly benefit mental health, making our village locations ideal for young people to thrive.
How We Work with Children and Young People in Our Care
At the heart of our approach is a commitment to more than just keeping children safe. We are dedicated to helping them feel happy, accepted, and truly understood every single day. Our work with children and young people is grounded in strong, consistent relationships and a deep understanding of their individual needs, strengths, and aspirations.
Here’s what local authorities can always expect from us when we care for their children:
What We Offer Every Child
-
Playfulness – We create a warm, engaging environment where children can enjoy fun, laughter, and light-hearted moments. These experiences help build trust and resilience and ease the challenges they may face.
-
Acceptance – We embrace every child for who they are. We value their uniqueness and provide a space where they can be themselves without fear of judgement.
-
Empathy – We strive to understand what a child is going through, especially during difficult times. Our response is always rooted in compassion and curiosity, not punishment or blame.
-
Empowerment – We actively encourage young people to use their voice, make choices, and feel proud of who they are. We support them to build confidence and learn new skills that help shape their future.
-
Education – We see learning as something that happens everywhere not just in school. We support formal education while also encouraging personal growth through everyday life experiences.
-
Fun – Enjoyment and play are key parts of a child’s well-being. We ensure there are regular opportunities for enriching and enjoyable activities from days out to creative sessions and social events.
Our Approach: The 3H Model of Social Pedagogy
Our practice is underpinned by the 3H Model of social pedagogy, which supports the whole child emotionally, intellectually, and practically. It shapes how we interact, care, and plan for each young person.
Head (Thinking) – We help children understand their thoughts and feelings and support them in developing self-awareness and positive coping strategies.
Heart (Feeling) – Relationships are central. We build meaningful connections that offer emotional safety and a strong sense of belonging.
Hands (Doing) – We engage in practical, everyday activities with children, from cooking and games to learning life skills that promote development, independence, and confidence.
We understand the responsibility placed on local authorities in securing the best outcomes for the children in their care. Our approach is designed to complement this, working collaboratively and openly to provide children with the safe, supportive, and enriching environment they deserve
