Personal Security Services Ltd (PSS) proudly celebrates its 32nd year of dedicated service.

Over three decades, we’ve built a strong reputation for the safe and secure transportation of vulnerable individuals and as a trusted, specialist training provider.

In the past eight years, our journey has evolved significantly with the establishment of residential children’s homes under the PSS Care Group. This includes Marula House, Nyala House, and the opening of Invictus House in November 2023 which was our very first therapeutic children’s home. The success of Invictus House led to the launch of Tala House, our second therapeutic setting, which opened in August 2024.

Building on this momentum, we are now working hard to develop two new homes, set to open in 2026, that will specifically support children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These homes reflect our continued commitment to expanding specialised, high-quality care that meets the evolving needs of the young people we serve.

With these developments, we are proud to share that all of our homes have now undergone therapeutic development, having fully adopted this model. We are now a therapeutic community, where consistency, compassion, and connection are at the heart of everything we do.

This transformation reflects the vision of our directors, whose passion and commitment to vulnerable young people laid the foundation for residential childcare services at PSS.

In July 2025, we expanded our operations with the opening of a second office in Colchester, Essex, dedicated to the PSS Care Group, complementing our main head office that supports all PSS companies.

As part of our development, we’ve taken time to review our model of care to ensure it aligns with the growing needs of our young people and staff. From this review, we proudly introduced our 6 Quality Standards of PSSCG, a clear, meaningful framework that reflects who we are, how we work, and what young people, families, local authorities, and partners can expect from us.

These six principles are not just words they are meant to be lived and breathed in every home, every day:

  • Playfulness – We create engaging spaces that build trust and put young people at ease.

  • Acceptance – Every child is welcomed and accepted exactly as they are.

  • Empathy – We respond to emotional intensity with curiosity and compassion, not control.

  • Empowerment – We support children to find their voice, make choices, and build confidence.

  • Education – We value formal learning as well as everyday opportunities for growth.

  • Fun – Because joy, creativity, and shared experiences are essential to healing.

After careful research and reflection, we chose to adopt Social Pedagogy’s Head, Heart, and Hands model as the foundation of our therapeutic approach. This evidence-informed framework aligns with the research of the National Centre for Excellence in Residential Child Care (NCERCC) and is rooted in deep respect for the whole person.

  • Head – The knowledge, reflection, and theoretical grounding behind our work.

  • Heart – The empathy, emotional connection, and values that build trust.

  • Hands – The practical action shared experiences, creativity, and meaningful engagement.

This holistic model supports both young people and practitioners, enabling a deeper, more transformative form of care.

We also recognise the value of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy). These principles are foundational to all therapeutic work with children and are fully embedded into our fundamentals training. They are not a standalone approach they are the baseline for how we connect, understand, and support.

We are not standard EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) staff, and we certainly are not here to control with authority. We are here to connect.

Yes, boundaries are important. But our boundaries are realistic, compassionate, and rooted in trauma-informed practice. Many of our young people experience their highest levels of fear and anxiety during the quiet evening hours not because they’re “naughty,” but because they’re scared, lonely, and seeking connection the only way they know how.

We remind ourselves daily: All behaviour is communication. Every outburst, every refusal, every shutdown tells a story. Our job is to listen, interpret, and respond with empathy not punishment.

At PSS Care Group, we are committed to continuous improvement, and we remain open to learning, evolving, and growing. We actively seek insight and collaboration with parents, carers, local authorities, advocates, and like-minded organisations because we believe the best outcomes come from working together.

Alongside our evolving practice, we’ve refreshed how we present ourselves to the world. We are proud to introduce our new logo in July 2025, Its colourful, modern, and child-friendly. It is a visual reflection of our values and our work with children.

We don’t just provide safe places to live. We offer spaces where young people feel safe, understood, and empowered to heal. Spaces where relationships come first, and every child has a chance to thrive
