Kids Drawing Together

At PSS Care Group, our goal is to meet the unique needs of every child in our care.

We believe care is about more than keeping children safe it’s about helping them feel happy, accepted, and truly understood.

Our approach is therapeutic, relational, and person-centred. We look at the whole young person, their thoughts, feelings, and everyday experiences  and support them in a way that fits who they are and what they need.

A Therapeutic Team Around Every Child

We have a dedicated therapeutic provision within our homes, with the Home’s Therapist, who support not only the young people but also the staff team.

Our therapeutic approach is integrative, meaning different therapeutic models and techniques are combined to meet the individual needs of each young person.

We recognise that no single approach works for everyone. Instead, therapy is tailored to the individual, drawing from a range of approaches such as:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy – helping young people explore subconscious thoughts, past experiences, and how these influence their present

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – supporting understanding of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and developing practical coping strategies

  • Creative and flexible approaches such as crafts, therapeutic games, worksheets, walk-and-talk or drive-and-talk sessions

We aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where young people can explore their thoughts and feelings, develop self-awareness, and build healthier ways of coping.

The Home’s Therapist plays a central role in embedding therapy into everyday care.

They provide:

  • 1:1 therapeutic supervision for senior staff and residential team members

  • Monthly group reflective supervisions

  • 1:1 sessions and group workshops for young people

  • Support to managers during placement planning meetings

  • Contribution to internal progress reviews for young people

This ensures that therapy is not something separate it is part of how we care, communicate, and support every day.

Alongside the Home’s Therapist, additional therapeutic oversight ensures that care remains consistent, reflective, and responsive.

Together, the therapeutic team:

  • Guide and support care planning for each young person

  • Provide therapeutic supervision to management teams

  • Support staff through reflective practice and professional development

  • Offer 1:1 therapeutic support to staff where needed, including during times of stress, concern, or investigation

This helps staff feel supported and confident, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to young people.

Everything we do is guided by the our model:

  • Head – understanding, reflection, and learning

  • Heart – empathy, connection, and trust

  • Hands – practical care, shared activities, and everyday experiences

This allows us to build meaningful relationships through day-to-day moments,  whether that’s cooking together, spending time outdoors, or simply sharing conversation

Every young person has an individual therapeutic plan, created with support from the Home’s Therapist and the care team.

The first six weeks are focused on:

  • Building trusting relationships

  • Understanding the young person’s needs and experiences

  • Identifying what helps them feel safe and understood

Plans are regularly reviewed and adapted as the young person grows and develops.

We carry out regular Internal Progress Reviews to take a holistic look at each young person’s journey.

These reviews involve:

  • The young person’s Lead Keyworker

  • The Home’s Therapist

  • The Home Manager

  • Senior leadership

  • The Therapeutic Education Manager

Together, we explore:

  • Emotional and social wellbeing

  • Education and engagement

  • Life skills and independence

  • Participation within the home

  • Any challenges or concerns

  • Goals for the coming months

The young person’s voice is central, captured through their Wishes and Feelings, ensuring they are part of shaping their own journey.

These reviews go beyond a process they are meaningful opportunities to reflect, plan, and move forward together.

We are not just here to supervise, we are here to help young people heal, grow, and believe in themselves.

Every day, we commit to:

  • Playfulness – Creating space for joy, laughter, and being a child

  • Acceptance – Valuing each young person as they are

  • Empathy – Listening and understanding, especially during difficult moments

  • Empowerment – Helping young people use their voice and make choices

  • Learning – Supporting personal growth and life skills

  • Fun – Building connection through shared positive experiences

Our work is rooted in Social Pedagogy, which focuses on relationships, shared experiences, and learning through everyday life.

This means:

  • We do things with young people, not to them

  • We value everyday moments as opportunities to connect

  • We see each young person as more than their behaviours or past

Combined with the 3H Model, this approach ensures care is thoughtful, consistent, and meaningful.

At PSS Care Group, everything comes back to one simple aim.

To help young people feel safe, grow strong, and believe in their future.

We do this by working together, building trusted relationships, and always keeping the child at the centre of everything we do.
